Cobhambury Barn was derelict when purchased without planning permission in 1997. It is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in North Kent.
Planning was achieved by working closely with Gravesham Planning and Gravesham Conservation Department. We commissioned Roger Joyce Associates to complete our design with a scaled model to present to the planning authority which assisted in accomplishing planning for this project.
The design was a combination of traditional and modern construction. The ground floor retained an open plan theme; using floor to ceiling glass screens to the divide the various living areas. Two open plan stair cases sweep up to either end of a landing that forms a bridge, connecting each end of the Barn. Exposed beams to walls and ceilings preserve the nature of the building, whilst blending modern finishes provide a contemporary build.
This project has significantly added to the larger properties available in the historic village of Cobham.
